Founded in 1826, the city of Anderson was named for Revolutionary War hero General Robert Anderson.  Born in 1741 in Virginia, he came to South Carolina to help his friend, Andrew Pickens, in surveying land acquired by the Indians. The City of Anderson is located in the northeastern corner of South Carolina. The City is south of Interstate 85 and is approximately half way between Atlanta, Georgia and Charlotte, North Carolina. The I-85 corridor is one of the fastest growing economic areas in the U.S.

The City of Anderson is the county seat and is located in the geographical center of the county.  It is the largest city with a population of 25,000 according to the 2000 Census report.
